Structure and Content:
- The first lesson teases out various elements of the painting – leading to guided discovery practical tasks and much exploratory work both solo and in pairs.
- In lesson two, pupils begin to develop their ideas into longer phrases of movement, working in larger groups. The spatial features and tones within the painting are also explored, with a view to creating clear pathways, levels and dynamic range.
- In the third and final lesson, pupils finish, refine and rehearse their short group pieces. They share with the classdiscussing how well they have used the stimulus based on clear and concise success criteria.
Summary: In each lesson, we lead you through step-by-step, practical tasks exploring different aspects of the painting. We give your pupils suggestions for how to link ideas together and structure a complete dance.
We utilise GCSE dance terminology and clear criteria so that pupils and teachers alike can discuss and measure outcomes. “A brilliant way in for the GCSE choreography question, and a great resource for dance teaching in general !” – Sara Ridley, Arts Pool
